 Saying It Softly

It was deep into the night-time
Where thoughts and memories hold sway.
Phantoms of flickering images
Offering nothing at all to say.
Slight stirrings of ghostly dreams on edge
In cloudbanks turning gray...

I'll see you soon in the light of the moon
It's the best that I can do.
Right now my dear, my head won't clear
Drinks...yes, I've had a few.
No they don't help even one little bit
And each time, I say I'm through...

Light a candle in the window
To guide me out of the gloom.
Now I'm seeing flashes of you
In the corners of my room.
I see the two of us in a garden
As the roses come to bloom...

__________

We sipped many a strange nectar
Broke down many crumbling walls
Kept that old garden in our heads
Bruised our knees in many falls
But always we held together
Scampering down bright-lit halls...

Twilight time keeps trying to stay.
Darkness tries its best to work its will.
Despite all things placed in our way,
We are standing together still.
There is no end to you and me.
At least, that's the way I feel.....
