Poetic-Verses from ATHANASE

ENGLISH :

Your Name Within My Voice

For Alejandro Nojaev

I think of you, Alejandro,
Of your venerable causes,
Of your redemptive air
Simple, good, pure,
Serious,
Charitable,
Natural and just!

I think of this blue tit
Playing with the twilight,
Pious,
Benevolent,
Firmly singing,
Deliciously accomplishing
Its duty!

And I think of myself, immersed in the solemn fragrance
Of the years and the seasons,
Surrounded by fleeting objects,
Drowned in the river of matter,
Myself,
Small,
Unstable,
Ephemeral,
I who dare to want to love,
I who dare to desire to be immortal
And ethereal like the gods!

Ah, Alejandro,
I want as much of everything in me
As I can square with precision and intelligence,
I want my heart to relish
The inexhaustible goodness of eternal things.

Like Hipparchus,
That Greek astronomer and mathematician,
I want to taste the ecstatic limpidity of equinoxes
And, at midnight, protected by the veils of the breeze,
To compile the first catalogue of the stars.

I think of you, Alejandro, of you, of me, of us,
Of us, like streams,
Immutable,
Vibrant and
Tender tiny scraps
Of Destiny!
