 Jonah
Jonah

There's a full moon shining down on Jonah,
Lighting up the perpetual smile upon his face.
He wasn't born quite like you and me
But being a bit different is no disgrace...

I had known him since my first year in school
He was so quiet and shy back then
We could all tell with our very first glance
That he was somewhat different from other men...

He would sit on his porch and wave as I passed by
He was there most every day as the years rolled on
Mr. Andrews gave him a job cleaning his store
Eight hours a day Jonah swept and cleaned, all alone...

That old store closed down when Jonah turned sixty
He had never missed a day in all those many years
Now he was truly alone as the moon shone down
His mother passed away, Jonah smiled through his tears...

There's a full moon shining down on Jonah's grave
I stood there thinking I could never have been so brave
To live all alone from age sixty to niney-two
Look up and smile, old Jonah's smiling back at you...
