 Lessons From My Neighbor
This week my neighbor who lived alone
Forced out due to back taxes on her home
Single lady with job but bills did not meet
Lord, someday it could also happen to me

I found out from neighbor across the street
Same man does my snow and lawn upkeep
She asked if in his camper she could stay
His reply of no must have hurt her that day

I did not know her well but we always spoke
Her parents years ago were closer to my folks
When I saw boxes loaded on a truck by men
I should have realized something was up then

I told her about my temp job at the polling place
She said keep on knocking and running the race
Lord, was she too ashamed to share her situation
Wanting to spare me the details and my reaction

I tried to call her to offer my bedroom in basement
After I heard, for even short-term living arrangement
But her phone was already disconnected from service
Lord, protect her in this crisis to find housing assistance

Lord, thank You for another extra hour at work today
Due to fed office wires down which caused long delay
Also patience in helping train two new temps this week
My future there is in Your hands as Your will I seek

Thank You for prompting me to seek telephone bill assistance
Internet plan reduced for a year and removal of long distance
Application request for low income program to be sent by mail
For additional financial help, another way God always prevails

Lord, You led me to contact my health insurance provider
For possible lower premium option that I could consider
Prescriptions can be changed from generic rate to discount
All my current meds by mail order at same or less amount

Changing plan to discount for new meds might be at higher rate
Special ice packing needed for one med when sent by air freight
Total savings for 90 day supply same as one month free I would pay
Waiting for nurse to get doctor approval if med safe to ship that way

Lord, You used the experience with my neighbor to open my eyes
Reminding me that You will take care of me even when I ask why
I am gratefully blessed in the little ways You provide for my needs
Step by step supplying resources toward roof and car repairs indeed
