Snow

Stretching out before me a field
Of unmarked dazzling snow,
My footprints following me
Everywhere that I go.
And in this empty place
Another footprint  line.
Stretches back behind
Running parallel to mine.
They stop when I stop,
Start up again with me
Yet there is nothing there,
At least nothing I can see.
Is this my guardian angel
In this snow dazzled light
Or a more sinister being,
A creature of the night.
I have a sense of fate
Maybe a slight one of fear
But more a sense of curiosity
To know what follows me here.
How long has it been with me?
When the snowfield ends
Will it still be with me
Invisible foe, or friend.?
Walking through the cold,
Snow crackling beneath my feet
What on earth will happen if both
Sets  of tracks converge to meet?
