The Passing

It was something too that children should see
That even though there was such fierce rivalry
The athletes demonstrated such a spirit of camaraderie
Showing that even though they are competing; the air is still friendly

Despite what on achieve on the stage of the competition
A new experience to some extent has certainly begun
Because after the curtain comes down and all is said and done
There will be bonds form and they will in the future correspond

For instance when that aspect has finished they may later serve the nation
In other area in which they too may have to do some type of representation
Be it ministers, even sports administrators and perhaps ambassadors
Here again the rivalry will be renewed by this time in the form of words

But what was a sight and delight to see the behavior of the athletes
Being very gracious in their moment even when humiliated in defeat
This no doubt should be a feature to show to all the children
That even though defeated there is no hard feeling when beaten

Many of course will remember and marvel at the exploits of Usain
Who set a record and in four years broke and set another again
He intimated amid his moment of glory that the time has come
That to someone else he must bow out and pass the baton

Knowing full well that his hard work has placed him at the top
And even harder too was what made him retain that spot
He has seen and tested the field and saw that in his nation
That there are some other persons there who can be that continuum

How often works spoken can sometimes carry an air of resentment
As one listen to a guy's particular utterances and of comment
Who can remember how he was beaming in his days of glory
Seemingly quite bitter as he got eclipse in those pages of history

The time has come that herald the end that closing ceremony
That event will be relegated to a place in a special place in the memory
But all those feats those breath taking performances are gone forever
Will be caught up in the tide and taken away in yesterday's water
