A magic door was opened
On that soft warm August Morn
My special bonnie lassie
The day that you were born
For in flew joy and sunshine
A shining light of love
A gift from God send down to me
From Heaven up above
Watching from the window
I watched you walk like Da
You copied him exactly
`Though you were afae sma.
I smiled and stored the memory
Deep within my mind
So one day I could pluck it out
It wasn`t hard to find.
Then you toddled off to school
On this your special day
You did not want to leave me
And wanted me to stay
But I had to let you go
Like mothers all through time
So you could learn your letters
And sing your songs in rhyme
I cannot rock you now to sleep
`Nor sing a lullaby
Yet in my heart I`ll always hear
That first sweet infant cry
For in my soul my lovely lass
You`re sleeping in my arms
And I am gazing down with love
At your sweet baby charms.
Before I knew it you were grown
A leggy seventeen
And all the years have passed since then
As if they`d never been
Today you reach that golden age
Yes forty precious bairn
But anything`s still possible
That`s something you must learn
So have a happy day today
And baby please believe
That life is worth the living
Won`t you darling please
Hold on to hope and love and life
And all that you have good
Then you will see it`s worth the while
And live life as you should
