'Elusive Rain'

Elusive rain upon my roof,
Up until now you've been aloof,
Hidden way above the clouds,
Wrapped tightly in your well-bound shroud.

The land below receives your gift,
Absorbing fast before you flit,
And withered crops before you came,
Can all stand tall, now free of shame.

The dry and cracked earthen ground,
Can now begin to sing aloud,
And praise the heavens far above,
That nurtures all below with love.

The summer has been hot and dry,
No explanations as to why,
But there's no need to make a sound,
For nature knows its way around.

I hear the sound of happy birds,
Their voices ring with unseen words,
While they partake in sheer delight,
Before they settle for the night.

Elusive rain you have brought more than you realize,
With each new drop of moisture falling from your silver sky,
For with them comes the chance again for everything to flourish,
And you can smile in knowing everything has now been nourished.

~ Rain. How many people take that one single noun and its meaning for granted?
I suppose we all do, until there is none, and we find our crops withering away,
our lakes, rivers and streams diminishing, the roots of the trees trying their
best to somehow find moisture within the ground far below them. This summer has
been one of the hottest on record, and it's not yet over. Rain finally came today,
beautiful, glorious, badly needed rain, and it has been welcomed in more ways than
one. Wherever you are, I hope your summer is a good one and fills your cupboards full.~
