Fireside Chat

Words were steaming in my mouth
I wanted to say
one sentence,
but the tension on my lips
was so thick.
I didn't want to take the risk, so
I kept my mouth shut
I swallowed my words
I almost choked
No joke

Some folks
won't hear the truth
they rather hear a lie
and believe it
until they die.

The words I held burned inside,
I had so much in my heart
I just wanted to shout the words out!

I heard about those
fireside chats
that the old chaps had, long ago

You know
some words
were never heard and from
the words that were heard
some were ignored,
misunderstood, and
tossed into a pile of dead letters.

I thought to myself
what I have to say
is very important
I must wait, until God tells me what to say
I want my words to be heard
I want my words to live and not die by the fireside
