I AM
"A weed is no more than a flower in disguise."
- James Russell Lowe
I am a lonely dandelion
A flower growing in the wrong places
Some say I am just a weed
I see myself as a flower of beauty
I am yellow like the sun
I have a long green stem
It is green just like the green leaves and grass
I grow in the grass on lawns
No one wants me there
Others find ways to get rid of me
The sun shines down on me
Rain showers pour down on me
The life of a dandelion is short lived
In a while I become like a soft feathery puff
Children and grownups
Pick me and blow me to the wind
Scattering in the wind, so long I am gone

Next time you see a yardful of sprouting dandelions, note that they look remarkably like things we call "flowers." And later, when the flowers turn into fluff balls, look closely at one of those fluff balls and ask yourself whether it's really so unattractive.
