BEFORE WINTER
Autumn tastes upon my lips,
Earthy senses,
Cool air, and
Leaves spread on the barrenness of season,
Abandoned
By Summer
She took her last glimpse
Of the green tree
Then discarded its coat.
Tall, stood the might tree,
Scant skeleton, about
To shiver through Winter months.
Revellers collect hedgerow berries,
Jam in glass pots,
Stored in the larder.
Elderberry wine
To be sipped of an evening
In front of roaring logs.
