Dear friends - who at this time are sorrowful -
Because love's warm breath - has turned to ice .
Leaving a void - that seems too vast to span -
A bleeding heart - that vows never to love again -
For fear of the trampling of the boots of careless-ness.
And the torment of the ever wakeful nights-
That threaten to make the ongoing lament unbearable .
As if there will never be an end - in sight .

One thing is for sure in this old world .
Memories will fade - time will pass-
And we will love again.
Maybe gentler now - for fear the scars erupt -
Reminding us of failure - and regrets -
Telling us - in no uncertain terms - what could have been 
If only we had done this - said that - or not .
The day will come - when the ache is gone -
The tears stop falling - and acceptance has her way .

Sometimes - we just have to go with the flow -
And as one eminent writer once said -
It is better to have loved - and lost -
Than never to have loved at all. 
And - I for one - can say - 
I know .
