a fist in the eye
a fist in the air
a fist a fist a fist anywhere
does not belong
not in my heart
not in my head
does not belong
the fists of
sister father brother lover mother
clear them
they do not belong
erase them
take the mental scalpel
take the surgeon's skill
take the back door or the front door out
to scream safety harbor help me anyone anywhere
listen to yourself and repeat again
a fist in the eye
a fist in the air a fist a fist a pounding fist
has no mind had no heart cannot think of hurt
does not belong in anyway-- anywhere
you must remove it
take the mental scalpel
use your surgeon's skill
don't call the preacher but talk to your idea
of god now, the god within you
the god that knows you can heal
remove the fist remove the fist remove the fist
sigh let go the angst let go the pain
its all over
i am sorry you are sorry we all are sorry
the eye is crying now
the fist is gone now
the world is renewed
the world is sane
no punctuation or capitalization is needed. read it as is. it will stay as is.
it is meant to be read as someone who is talking to themselves and soothing themselves.
the "fist" does not have to be literal for this poem to work or make sense.
