For My Baby Minx

Soft are her lips, like the petals of a rose.
Warm and brown are her eyes, like the gentle doe's.
Quick is her wit, and swifter yet her laugh,
Could there be any doubt?  She is my better half.

Her talents are immense, though likely she'd deny
Her sculptor's touch, her singer's lips, her artist's eye.
So wondrous a lady was surely intended for much more
Than to be the wife and soul mate of this colossal bore.

She claims to see some part of me that others never did,
An inner, hidden self on which I keep a lid.
I may well never be the man she seems to see,
Though she deserves far more than I could ever be.

No matter the problems and worries my future may hold,
With her by my side, I can be both strong and bold.
Throughout my life, I sought the missing piece of my heart,
I thought my search was doomed to failure from the start.

How could anyone truly love my shadowed inner soul,
Or cherish one whose heart was a blackened lump of coal?
Yet somehow, beyond all hope I met the woman of my dreams,
A loving heart, a caring soul, a smile that simply beams.

She is everything I longed for, and never thought to find.
She was crafted just for me, from time out of mind.
