I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.  I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.  And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
Ephesians 1:17-23

In the world, knowledge is premium.  People with knowledge are looked up to.  There can be a strong pull on us to obtain knowledge so that we can be revered.

However, in this scripture, Paul prays that people receive the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that they may know God better, so that He can be revered, not us.

The use of this wisdom is not for us to show others of our knowledge of God and the scriptures.  This wisdom is used as the means for our continual and ever growing love of God.  The growing wisdom of God produces a growing love and reverence for God.  It produces a stronger and stronger trust and dependence on God and a diminishing dependence on ourselves.

I think many of us tend to come to a stage in our life when we realise that no matter how hard we try or how much knowledge we accumulate, or how much praise we receive from the world, that it is never enough.  But Paul talks of the ‘enough...ness’ or should I say – the full sufficiency of the One He says we are to get to know.  He talks of the hope He has called us to, the riches of His inheritance and His mighty power.

Our desire for wisdom is not to be for the increasing of our own power and influence, it is for His power and influence to be seen and experienced and enjoyed to the full by ourselves and others.  We glorify God through our faith in Him and through our enjoyment of and our revering of Him.  Faith, enjoyment and revering in anything or anyone else will never be enough.
