Here we stand in this agonizing darkness
knowing tomorrow as the sun raises his head
we must do battle with that might of before us
that which has crushed kings and princes
underfoot like chalk, shackled them as if animals
this my friends I assure you will not happen to us
for tomorrow when the sun raises its head we will fight...
tomorrow is a day that will go down in history books
our children’s children will talk about this battle
There will be no prisoners,
we die as free men so drink hardy tonight
for tomorrow we will sing in Elysium my friends
but take note, before we go into this battle
listen, be not afraid to die tomorrow
look at those animals those barbarians
in the eye one and every one and let them
see your fiery tempers before you plunge
your spear and sword into their flesh...
Listen to me now while we have time
for this will be my last order to you all
fight as you have always fought
with courage, with the gods on our side
you and I both know we cannot win this battle
but we can hold them off while our country men
make time and ready to defeat them
Let the world remember that here we fought
outnumbered against this tyrant
for the sake of Greece
let them say in future times
that here the Spartans stood their ground...
