 Gadgets
Into the habit and along with the mix
what would happen if I adhered to the fix?
Were they trying to put a spell on you?
A wave of the wand and that's how it goes,
you're one of the baying adult Garanimals,
matched up with the clones.
Bobble-head bobbling around unawares
on their phones.
Fingers adhered to the keypads.
Eyes, laser-focused, on screens.
While all around, all around the wonders
of the world pass by
virtually unseen.
Too wrapped up in the technology to
breathe.
Too wrapped up in nano seconds
to see.
Time is passing.
Time is screeching by on mag wheels.
While they're stuck in suspended animation
having dug in their heels...
the new world so tied to the gadget mind.
I'd rather press pen to the paper.
Note clouds calibrations floating high up in the sky.
Smell pungent autumn leaves tumbling.
Smile at quarrelsome squirrels gathering chestnuts.
Take time to notice when I
breathe and I sigh.
Hear the happiness of people and dogs at play in the park.
And listen for the quietest creeping sounds after dark.
Anything that involves my senses
and my sense of the here and now.
One day it will be over
and I will not have wasted all the wonder
of it all
on gadgets.

Melissa A Howells  Meloo straight from her Tilt-a World

After writing this poem, later on, we all went for a three
and a half mile walk about.
We sat on hand-built masonry neighborhood benches and noted
the world as it happened.
We walked to have dinner. We walked pushing our older cat
in his pet stroller.
Then we walked home, taking our time as we went, meandering.
Noting the wind, stars. Came home
in the dark, entirely satisfied, satiated.
The air was invigorating, more than fine,
having been cleaned and sweetened by the previous day's rain.
