Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, Romans 8:1
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. Galatians 5:16
I have some power for you. Over the last week, we will have felt at least one of these things: anger, lust, envy, selfishness, fear, anxiety, pride, panic (and on). Ungodly forces, whether; mindsets, strongholds, demons, whatever will try to make us feel condemned for feeling such things. We will never stop feeling feelings in this life. The power available to us through Christ does not enable us to stop feeling the feelings.
But, in Christ, there is now no condemnation. No condemnation. Forces come quite strong against us to make us feel prolonged guilt about our feelings. But we do not need to respond by thinking ‘I’m a Christian / good person and I should not be feeling these things’.
We have a fight to be fought, but it involves the self-control of asking the Holy Spirit for help when these feelings arise. We can simply say ‘Holy Spirit, help me’.
We can also have the self-control to remember when these feelings come that Christ’s perfect finished work is what is important to us, not our imperfect work which Christ’s perfect work has covered.
We are to live in the Spirit and the fruit of the Spirit includes self-control. When we use the fruit of self-control that comes from the Spirit, it helps us to not gratify the desires of the flesh.
If we feel anxiety for example and we say ‘ Oh no, what’s wrong with me. I shouldn’t be feeling anxiety now... maybe I’m kidding myself... Maybe I’m not any good after all...’ we are living in the flesh. It’s the way the enemy forces want us to think so that damage can be caused against us.
But if when the feeling comes, through self-control we ask the Holy Spirit for help, He will help to have us deal effectively with the feeling. Through self-control we can also speak out scripture ‘there is no condemnation in me because I am in Christ’ for example.
No condemnation. Walking / Living in the Spirit. The fruit of self-control: Devastating weapons against the enemy.
We can walk in the victorious shoes of Christ and not trip over the laces of our feelings.
