The soul has much to say

Apex of the heart...

At arms length
Might as well be
a million miles away

Still
she reaches
for my hand

Prozac infusion
yet
to take effect

Riding
the waves
of futility

Unworthy
useless
confused

indecisive
empty
suffocating

overwhelmed
underwhelmed
ugly

unfounded
shame
...lonely

What's
required
of me

What's
asked
of me

Never are
the two
the same

but
I don't
care

Squeezing
my
hand

Her sign
for me
to come closer

It's
her
fight

I'm needed
to nurse
the wounds

Another
squeeze
of my hand

She's
getting
stronger

The warmth
of my body
helps

Inside
the tempest
has ceased

Eternal
squeeze
of my hand

Wrapping
loving arms
around her

Fleshly shield
against
the world

She wants
to hear
a story

I speak of
a cold March afternoon
in 1982

A preadolescent moment

Feeling like
the only soul
on the planet

Later the sun
set fire to the sky
at dusk

and my
sanity
was restored

She draws me
near
for a kiss

Promising
in the sweetest
of whispers

if I'd
always be
her daystar

she'd always
come
back

to me
