Bhavani, the Mother of the Universe

I bow to Bhavani, the Beauty of Bliss-consciousness
The embodiment of nectar, who melts the orb of the Moon
And drinks the nectar of light, and who shines with profuse
Luster in the six lotuses of Sushumna* in the body of man!

I worship Goddess Bhavani who is seated on a triangle
Amidst the filaments of a thousand petalled shining lotus,
Who is extremely beautiful with Her charming grace, and
Whose body is as refulgent as innumerable rising suns!
~*~
O Divine Mother, I contemplate Thy lotus feet upon my head
Which are served by the celestials such as the Creator Brahma,
Vishnu, Indra and others, which are wet due to red lac dye, and
Adorned with dazzling anklets jingling with tiny bells!
~*~
O Mother! I worship that lovely streak of hair on the three folds
Of Your abdomen, and the shining naval which circles to the right.
And I worship Your rotund hips covered by the red garment tied
Around Your waist, adorned by jewel-studded tinkling girdle!

O Lotus-eyed Mother! I worship your two radiant breasts,
Round and shapely comparable to lofty gem-studded pitchers
Which are beautiful and full with nectarine milk covered with
A shining breast-lace oozing at the tops enchantingly sweet!

I worship Goddess Bhavani who is shining with Her four arms
Delicate like the lotus flowers, and which carry a bow, arrows,
Noose, goad, and shining with jeweled bangles and bracelets!

I worship Goddess Bhavani who is extremely graceful and tranquil,
Who has Her lotus-face shining like the autumnal full-moon smiling
With roseate fruit-like lips and adorned with gem set ear-ornaments!

Oh Mother! I praise Your charming lotus-face with musk on cheeks
And the shining forehead, the nostrils, the beautiful eye-brows, and
The lips and graceful side-glances capable of granting boons to gods!

I praise Your head which is radiant, and crested with jewel of crescent
Moon, which is attracting the swarms of bees swinging inside the moving
Braids of hair and is shining with the densely set white jasmine flowers!

O Bhavani, Your lovely blissful form which is beyond the universe,
Very subtle and peaceful may shine forth ever in my heart-lotus,
May the literature in the form of effulgence dawn upon me always!

I meditate on Thee, O Great Queen Tripura, who is seated on the lap
Of Lord Shiva, Thou art the Sovereign goddess shining in the wheel
Of splendor, surrounded by all groups of shaktis led by Lord Ganesha!

I worship Thee, O Bhavani, whose form is the blissful knowledge.
Which is the sovereign power that controls the whole universe,
O Bhavani, You are the Sun, the Moon, the fire, the air and water,
The Earth and the Heaven, and thou art the Absolute Existence!

I wish to praise You with mere knowledge of Vedas and Upanishads, but
You are unattainable through the knowledge of scriptures as they do not
Know the extent of Your greatness,O Great Mother, forgive my foolish act!

You are my teacher;You are Shiva, the Lord of all and Uma,the Goddess.
You are my mother and father;You are the knowledge and my sole refuge.
O Mother Bhavani, indeed You are the body and soul and all my existence!

Salutations to You again and again,O Mother Bhavani! O my sole refuge!
O Auspicious and Meritorious One, Mother of Compassion, Thou art That
Which is unattainable by gods, Protect me from the fear of worldly existence!

Who ever reads this meritorious hymn on Bhavani with devotion,
Goddess Bhavani confers on him the eight excellent divine powers
And Her abode of Divine Bliss which is the essence of the Vedas,
Who ever repeats the name Bhavani thrice will be pure and sinless,
He will attain divine prosperity and will never have grief in his life!
