Morning bite _

Esplanade coffee shops slowly engage
early risers in all states of undress.
Youth filled tourists, the cafe set a buzz
restart day filled conversations, bought tans
clothe perfect skins unfetted by life's raw grind.

Bike riders protest a new council's flirt
with the past, bike lanes to make way for
sweaty well heeled unfit tourist lobbies
who crawl back to the future where cars rule.

Cairns tourist high season needs a face lift.
Harry's cafe done and dusted, shuttered
down in make over mode, the blue bird's, big
apple's, pizza parlour's spent sad decline.

Old farts and flarts in used by date leather
skins, sit dumb opposite the same old face.
Telepathic inactions reset on
worry lines, etched road maps psychics devine.

Macdonalds expels a giant of a man
tattoos stretched taut everywhere the place, his
freckled sun damaged skin a witness to
youth misspent, the bandaged knee grinds under
weight of his body waddles slow progress.

His petite asian wife attends in slow
walk mode, across struggle street in silence.
The parked upmarket ride made in grunts just
in time, the body talk said all the rest.
