'Passage of Time'

Passage of time continues to race,
I am carried right along with its speed,
No whispers or cries will interrupt its course,
No diversion in the least will it heed.

It is sad, when you truly think about it,
There is really nothing to celebrate or cheer,
For a life is not long in the span of this space,
That is hurdling along without judgement or grace.

I sit here pondering the why's and the how's,
Undecided how each one evolves,
Yet in the ultimate end it matters not,
For the problems have already been solved.

It is with mixed feelings I express this,
No reason to explain the way I feel,
For my life has already been charted,
And the fate of my soul has been sealed.

~ Time. How many people actually think about it? Especially when it's related to life,
past amount, present amount, future? It is as elusive as the air we breath, clear as a
raindrop, sought-after as fine gold. We take it for granted, we waste it -- and we
cherish it. Think about it, and when you do remember that it is precious, it is numbered,
and one day it will end. Thinking of time passage can actually be depressing – discouraging
– especially when it is your own. We all like to think we are invincible, untouchable when
it comes to mortality, yet we know we're not, and time continues to push on, dragging us right
along with it. There is only one light in the dark tunnel, and that is the light which guides
us all along the same path, together. Such were the thoughts behind the writing of this rather
bleak poem. ~ R.B.
