Twilight Zone (A Short Story)

I turned in the hall way to take a look at the television screen and out of the corner of my eye I noticed a figure sitting next to the head of my bed. I rotated my head to get a better view and I noticed it was a young girl attending to … me. I was lying there in the bed apparently fast asleep. She was patting my shoulder and humming something softly. I was momentarily disoriented, my head swimming briefly as I tried to sort out the images I was seeing. My son was sitting in the adjoining room watching a basketball game, as I had been moments ago; at least I thought I had been. The young lady in the bedroom was smiling at . . . me, in the bed. She looked vaguely familiar. Actually familiar is the wrong word. I felt something comfortable in her presence. I immediately wanted to know more about her. I blinked and as I opened my eyes, she was gone and I was shaking off the feeling of being asleep. I rolled off the bed rubbing my head thinking it had only been moments before that I was enjoying a basketball game. I had the strangest feeling that I had lost something. I remember seeing a young girl sitting at the side of the bed when I awoke, but no sign of that existed. Time to shower and shave I guess while I ponder on what exists in that twilight zone between dreams and reality.
