Symbiosis (renamed from Sea of Grass)He found a door That wasn't there Vanished through Into thin air To find himself In a pastoral scene Acre on acre of Waving green his way blocked So he could not pass By banks of signs Keep off the grass In the sky Of azure blue A Helicopter Gunship flew Spotlight fixed On his head Metallic voice howled Stand still or be be dead And from the grass From way down root deep Climbed yellow gas to Send him to sleep His final thoughts As he slumped down To lay supine On the ground grass was moving Starting to flow As it waved To and fro He was there To meet their need He felt small tendrils Pierce to feed. In very short time Just a mound Where he'd lain On the ground Just as though He'd never been On this deceptively Peaceful scene Acres and acres Of whispering grass The trap reset to await A new victim to pass Vote for this poem
