VIRGIN

Pondering upon the hyperbole that prevails
around the term virgin, untouched, never scaled.
One wonders how the virgin ended up despoiled
by a charlatan promenading as chaste and noble.

I look at the shop fronts gaudy and bold, the aircraft
using the clouds as it bed, its virginity exposed, an
unreliable truth, taking money same way the as any
common prostitute. Bearded and bold this virgin is, coy.

One hand claps and the other wonders what’s going on.
The airwaves and skyways controlled by this pirate, bowing
over to expose his virginal ass. Rising up to let the sword
spear him and declare, rise up sir, you’re a paragon of life.

What happened to the term virgin, that we have accepted?
it as a despoiler of all that once was pure and  noble.
Today our virgin wears the pallium of virtuosity rollicking
around without a care, having the pride to say, call me sir.
