One of many quiet days this woman
heard a knock at her door
and she went to
see who it was.
It was a man
from some mission
that was asking for donations.
He looked like he could use it himself.
He showed her I.D.
and explained in depth the need.
They talked of rising prices
and costs of getting by.
She said i'm sorry but
i just don't have it.
She went back inside
but something tugged at her.
She thought i just can't
turn my back and walk away.
She looked out her window
and he was going down the street
to the next house they were home but
didn't answer the door.
She called to him and said
could you come here a minute.
She reached into her purse
then went to the door
where she watched him walk up on the porch.
Would $5 help she said.
I'm sorry it can't be more.
He said well bless you
you're a good person.
She said you're welcome
good luck on your journey
and have a nice day.
She went back inside
and felt such pride in what she did!
That Woman Was Me
And That Tug Was Hope!
Now i'm not a braggart
i'm just a lost lamb
but can't bear to see
others lose their way
if i can do something to
maybe steer them in the right direction!
