One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.
Psalm 27:4

Ahhh!  I love this scripture...  What a lovely picture...

Well here's the thing.  There's a whole raft of things out there that don't want you to dwell in the house of the Lord and dwell on His beauty and they're at work all the time.

How were you when you woke this morning?

Were you in bed thinking of how beautiful God was and in sweet communion with Him (good for you if you were) or did you have a barage of thoughts coming at you from every angle about what you didn't do yesterday, what you'll be dreading today, what someone said to you recently that hurt, the time you haven't got to do the things you need to do...and on.

When that stuff happens, we need to say 'Get out of my sight!!'

We're not here to entertain that stuff.

We're not here to let that stuff get in our view.

We're here to have contempt for that stuff, tell it to get out of the way and then after we've attacked it and got it out of the way in Christ, dwell in the House of the Lord and gaze at His beauty.
Ahh.... how nice.

See... the problem is, there are things trying to convince us the Christian life is all about 'Ahh... how nice'.

But we need to do some violence in Christ to get the things that get in our sight, out of our sight.  The view is nice (well its more than that).. dwelling in the house of the Lord is lovely - but we've got to fight for it.  It's not all sweetness and light.

It's not in our remit to entertain the things that get in the way.

They're not going to go away if we ask them politely to.

They're not going to go away if we feel sorry for ourselves because they are there.

They will be strengthened if we attack the day in our own strength.

They will flee if we say 'This is the day that the Lord has made - who on this earth are you? - Get out of my sight in Jesus' Name'

This is the day the Lord has made!  It's not like when we make something and we know a lot about it.  He knows everything about the day He made.  he knows everything about everything and He is infinitely more powerful than the things that come against us 24/7.

Get - out - of - my - sight.

That stuff's got no right being there.

We tend to hear people say  / or say it ourselves to other people: 'Get out of my sight'

Why do we say that?

Well this is what I believe God told me this morning - and you can test it.

I believe the bottom line of why we say that is that the person we say it to is getting in the way of the picture of the life we have constructed and the way we want it to be.

I can only speak for myself, but I'll put my hand up and say that's spot on in my experience when I say or think 'get out of my sight' to people.

But here's the thing:

Our remit is to love people isn't it?
And:
Our remit is not to create our own pictures of how the world around us is to be, it's to gaze at the most beautiful Person we will ever see.

We are to get hostile against things that get in the way of that.

People don't get in the way of that.

Thoughts, strongholds, demons, principalities get in the way.

We've been tooled up to deal with them.

Here are some of the tools:

I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
Luke 10:19

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
2 Corinthians 10:4

Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Galatians 5:16

This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not in your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight
Proverbs 3

Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
    Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
    Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
Psalm 1

These tools help us to love God, love people and hate the things that get in the way.

I pray that we all have mighty victories in Christ against the things that try to get in the way of the view of our Perfect Lord.
