Over and Over!

 Do you know, Poe?
Let me tell you a story about Mr. Edger Allen!
When the sun sinks out of sight in the west,
and evening shadows appear on my garden wall,
he comes uninvited, with his troop of unsavory
friends .
A large, talking, black raven, which never shuts up!
A group of gargoyles, that dance and sing vulgar things.
A lone ghost, that constantly reminds me of a host of sins.
They all talk at once, while Poe recites over and over the Rhyme
of the Ancient Mariner.
The night seems never ending; my thoughts are jumbled and meaningless as
Poe’s little circus continually performs and sleep is never born!
I worry about my sanity, and I ask aloud, “What brings me to this dept of loneliness,
despair and sadness every night?”
Poe leers, and says, “Your black soul attracts me and all my ghoulish friends; we thrive
on your loathing and self pity!”
But, at last, redemption is near, as the first rays of sunlight announces the break of dawn,
Poe and his group of hellish friends disappear; only to return when shadows dance
on the garden wall; my hell will start once again and sleep will avoid my tired and weary
soul as my thoughts once again, revert back to the sights, sounds and smells of that jungle war, long past.
