Days and nights of holding you, baby mine

Dancing to my father’s music

Seeing his eyes from another time

We spun and swayed till you closed your eyes

Like the ocean’s breath, your little sighs

Tender fingers tangled my hair

I stood in the stars as I held you there

The scent of you, exactly like mine

We needed no words, only more time

Baby mine, I watched you sleep

Prayed the Lord your soul to keep

The sound of little footsteps

And my heart leapt

A sacred prayer whispered

A promise kept

Never has anything made me smile

As when you spoke my name, bright child

That name to you I’ll ever be

No other but you can say to me

You conquered me every time

You placed your tiny hand in mine

I would walk a thousand miles, sweet one

Just to see you shine

But I knew that you would grow away

My love cannot fight time

Llife called, and you couldn’t stay

(No one can hold the future at bay)

So I did the most important things I could do

Talking, singing, dancing with you

(Dancing always to my father’s music)

That melody still plays in my mind

Its words still true and so sublime:

“I need you more than want you,

And I want you for all time…”

I wrapped my arms around eternity

When at last you came to me

Lighthouse of my life--

Beacon in the darkest night

You are all I love and dreamed you’d be

My little boy,

Now you carry me
