The Christmas Cat

She watched as he made his way
Under the Christmas tree.
Did he remember this were where
He’d joined the family?

He swatted at the tinsel!
 Pulled down a Christmas ball!
Tore the ribbon off a package!
Then happily did crawl

Up the trunk until the tree
 Tipped and tumbled down!
 Icicles, lights, and broken bulbs
Were scattered all around!

Startled, he retreated…
But slowly snuck on back…
After she’d picked up the mess
He got right back on track.

 Sniffing where he’s been before
 Again, checked out the tree.
My what pretty blinking lights!
But surmised he’d rather be

With her on the recliner...
Just to snuggle in her lap.
The tree would have to wait until
 After his morning nap.
