I'll never forget the words you spoke
lifting me up each and every day
You say you were never good for me
I fear you must be blind
you've failed to notice the subtle changes
each and every time
You focus on what went wrong
Instead of what went right
It was you who showed me how to live
when I didn't even want to fight
I shared parts of myself with you
parts no one else has seen
pulled into the light of you
instead of living in the in between
A place so full of darkness
I was lost inside my head
Thank you for loving me
Waking up the part of me
I feared was cold and dead
I could never repay you for all you've done
A simple thank you is not enough
You found the softness underneath
an exterior, callused and tough
many years of hopelessness
It was you that led the way
Leading me back from the edge
So in my heart is where you'll stay
I'll keep you here safe and warm
Maybe one day you will see
That even with the pain of losing you
You are still the best thing that has happened to me
