Remnants Of You

I chanced upon the embers
I thought died long ago
How can this be?
I thought my heart was cold
 But no I’m sure
 There’s something more
I feel a little stirring
As you approach the door
 Last night as I lay
I saw your eyes of glee
They beamed like shooting stars
And warmed my growing belly
The familiar steps
I used to listen for
Have come again somehow
But you died in the war?
 It’s you all over again
Your voice gentle and kind
It is our sons footsteps my sweet
That make my heart rewind
It's in his hand I feel your warmth
His voice through which I hear
The gentle loving man I miss
My love of yesteryears
