I PRESS ON TO WIN THE RACE .

I dedicate this poem to my good friend 
Ashley , to encourage him to keep 
going forward - to win the race .

written 29 : 12 : 12

Forgetting what lies behind me - I press on 
To win the race - Looking only forward - I set 
A steady - even pace .
For the goal that lies ahead - is more 
Precious - than purest gold - could ever be .
This is what I aim for - so all else I place 
On hold - or cast away - 
To reach my destiny .

What Prize is this I speak of ? - Why do I 
Set my heart as flint  - towards this goal ?
Why do I reach forward with such fervour -
Towards the Lover of my soul ?

He is my prize - this One - who gave His all for me 
So I - a crippled - wayward spirit - could in truth 
Be free - unshackled  from my chains of sin - and 
Broken dignity .
He lifted me - when I was down - like a poor and 
Broken man - rejected by society - unwanted
And alone .

But now - though I may falter - and ofttimes let Him down 
He promises to help me - and raise my head again -
Above those of my enemies - who would crush me 
If they could - but -
I'll run with perseverance - and do the 
Things I should .

Then - when I reach the final line - into 
Eternity and rest - I can 
Look into my Saviour's eyes -
And know - I've done 
My  best .

Philippian's 2:13 - 14 says
forgetting what is behind and straining forward to what 
is ahead , I press on towards the goal to win the prize 
for which God has called me Heavenward in Christ 
Jesus .



Keep going forward - Don't look back - and you will win .
