Gulps of Wrath

The
everglades that rustle through
The backwoods of my mind
So often fill with waterways
And branches left behind

  I'm talking about family
Often the cause of pain
So many times they lash at you
Not caring to refrain
As if that wasn’t bad enough
You’re asked to care and trust
As if magically one day
Pain disappears like dust
A spider’s sting can really hurt
It’s venom just a token
Like that of mommy’s Ill words
She
never should have spoken
Now the words have all been said
She’s in a dire state
Why does it have to hurt so bad
Why are we all her bait?
What makes her think at all?
When she just lets us drop
Why does she have to belittle
Why doesn’t she just stop!
The liquor that she gulps
Will hurt her little clovers
Tomorrow may not come at all
If so she’ll just start over!

Dedicated to all Mothers who inflict pain
By drinking at the expense of their children!
