A Distant Star!

I take a walk every now and then
Through the cobwebs of my mind
I kick at the pebbles, biding time
For I know just what I’ll find
I stored you there so long ago
In a trunk of overflow
Full of aging memories
 I lived so long ago

I loved to hear you reminisce
 Of family gone too soon
Oft your mind retraced steps
 Clouds claiming wintry moon
Sky crackled booming sounds
And rain would fall so hard!
And I would trail patterned steps
Etched deep within your heart
You told me stories of a time
When life was hard to bear
And winters came with sickness
Atrocious and unfair

I listened so intently
To every word you said
Then years later as you weakened
Stroked, soft hair upon your head

You were so close to heavens door
My tears could not reach you
But oh, they seared my inner core!
For you went too soon
You are now but a distant star
I visit often as footsteps trace,
Yesterday’s of cherished times

Filled with echoes sweet embrace

Written for my dear beloved Grandmother
You may be a shadow of a whisper
But someday I will once again
Hear your sweet voice and cradle love endeared

Oh how I miss
YOU
Bemo
