"Fallen Women"
“Fallen Women” February 20, 2013
Magdalene Asylum a place of Irelands shame, a home for taken children
A House for fallen women, long days of unpaid work, never allowed to speak
In the dark corridors of shame, emotional abuse was the order of the day
They washed away their sins in the workhouse every single day
Eighteen hours of torture, no words to speak, just work and pray
The inmates they called children were taken, they didn't have a say
Isolated from the outside world for an indefinite amount of time
Their golden years stolen, children working the laundry line
No chance to remember happy days, just broken hearted tears
Their special years were stolen, the little children's fears
The government of Ireland turned it's back and said Magdalene was fine
One hundred and fifty five children died and buried inside the walls of fear
Unmarked graves, they died alone with the sisters standing near
A mass grave in Glasnevin Cemetery was their final resting place
Magdalene Asylum a place of Irelands shame, a home for taken children
A House for fallen women, long days of unpaid work, never allowed to speak
