Asleep While the Room Is on Fire

My body cries for sleep
My mind will not allow
Swaddled in scarlet, solitary shame

But your heart deconstructed a trust
That bound us once in love
Now I stand accused for possessing still
A throbbing in my chest

Can I give you love beyond love?
We're a hollow house of cards,
But I won't be exiled
In your pretentious tower

You wait for me to do the right thing
As you sleep peacefully, my pretender
While the room is on fire

Chanteuse
