      The Spectator
          (What a Shame)

Body and soul sinks deeper each day into the darkness of his allotted time left.
 The fast ticking of life’s clock, haunts his reverie, for his days grow short.
It’s not what he’s done with his life, but what he has failed to do, that’s unforgivable.
Now four scores quickly consumed, the face in the mirror is vaguely recognizable.
He would like to blame time for his failures, but deep down, he knows the fault lies
with the aging face in the mirror!
He could have been a contender, but instead, he chose to be a spectator.
There will be no memorials, statues or song sung in his memory;
his name will not be reflected in the annles of history.
He will simply pass into the pages of time, along side of millions
 of other faceless spectators.
(What a shame!)
