The Word of the Lord came to Jonah, son of Amittai

Go to the great city Nineveh for they are fit to die

But Jonah had other intentions when he arose that day

He searched and found a ship heading the opposite way

We’ve all heard the story or read it as a kid

3 days in a fishes belly because of what he did

But what about the other side of this amazing tale

Where we see the grace and mercy of God prevail

The Lord saw this city, great among the nations

Saturated in sin, just ripe for desolation

There were no righteous, no not even one

They did every imaginable sin under the sun

From the richest and greatest, to the poorest and least

They celebrated sin with feast after feast

God saw them as not knowing their right hand from their left

And even though His law should condemn them to death

The Lord had compassion, and sent to them His Word

Their ears and hearts opened, and repentance was heard

Now Jonah saw a wicked city fit to be destroyed

But God saw a revival opportunity He could not avoid

This city was turned around, but not by mans design

But by the plan of a loving God who remains the same through time

He is still looking for a city to start a revival in

And he is still looking for a messenger to send

“Who will go for us” I hear the scripture say

Let My people called by My name humble themselves and pray

Teach the people to turn from wickedness and seek my face

Then I will hear from haven, and visit with My grace

There is a call from God the every church in every land

Every big city and small city to rise and take a stand

Just as Nineveh, that great city was revived that day

This city must get ready because a revival is on the way

From the Book of Jonah
