The care worn boots of yesterdays workers
lie dormant, cast into the doldrums of the welfare state.
Today, tomorrow, yesterday workers with
hands outstretched beseech, give us work.

All they receive is a disdainful glance, that declares, take
our handout and be grateful that we tolerate your moaning.
The stamp, tax you paid into the system, all the monies are
missing, voraciously raped by the banks

you stand here every day hoping for change
all we can say is, none is forthcoming, your day is done.
We cannot give you work and very soon we shall not pay
you a daily pittance, it will all be taken by the banking system.

Today, tomorrow, forget about living, you are finished.
Cast aside like flotsam, drifting upon the tide, you depend
on the welfare to survive. No easy answers, no joy in living.
Each and every day, you’re a supplicant asking for a handout.
