O Lord, You have examined me,
And know exactly who I am;
Being as content as can be,
Also as gentle as a lamb.
You alone know when I sit down,
And the time that I go to bed;
As well as when up with a frown,
From the burdens within my head.
You read my thoughts from far away,
And You see me where I may roam;
As well as detours when I stray,
And when I rest once I get home.
You are familiar with my ways,
Along with my actions and deeds;
With every thought, word and phrase,
Also mix desire with needs.
You are hearing every sound,
Where can I go to get away;
And are totally all around,
Where can I run and hide today.
To the highest mountain I go,
Down into the lowest valley;
But You already seem to know,
Even in the darkest alley.
No matter where I just might dwell,
Possibly on a distant shore;
You would be there if I slept in hell,
Your light guides me to the right door.
