Fool

Here we are starting new,
Happy and settled without you,
Looking forward instead of back,
Anticipating the future instead of mourning what we had.

We see a light shining where you once stood,
We're moving on which you never thought we would,
You expected me to fail and to fall apart,
Expecting me to crawl back with a broken heart.

I heard them snigger and heard them laugh,
Thinking all too soon I'd have you back,
For without you I was nothing, I couldn't be strong.
Well you fools, I've proved you all so wrong.

You fooled me once, twice and more,
But the last time was the final straw,
I grew a backbone and kicked your but,
Out the door like an old unwanted mutt.

You threw away the best thing in your life,
Then said you wished you'd made me your wife,
You know nothing other than gambling, or being a fool,
Love, honesty and truth mean nothing to you.

So as morning approaches and as you wake,
I hope somewhere deep down you feel an ache,
Knowing we're free now and not under your spell,
You can carry on existing in your own version of hell.
