  October's Child

Cat's Eye Green

I sat quietly writing about a tangled-up season
When the ink turned a shade of cat's eye green
I curled up around the outside of this peculiar scene
Of writings and images without rhyme or reason

Impatiently, I sat waiting for words to free-fall
When my mind began to break like an egg shell
My eyes traced the circle of an old withered well
Where echoes ricocheted along its forsaken wall

The Ink, in cat's eye green, had captured me with pen
Slanting varied shades of ramblings, amid barren fields
I became dusty bowls of summer with broken windmills
I whispered to pampered hills; they bade me come in

A distant rustle touched me within this dark slanted place
Stretch little flower, feel the sun, the echoes and dreams
Walk beyond your covering, beyond life's uneven seams
I've loved you always; take my hand, accept my grace
