He'd watch her coach as it drove by
A paupers view and breath drawn sigh
Wanting for things that could never be
Nor lamp to rub to wish for three
His life unlike the chivalrous
But in his heart she was no less
A princess loved, his to confess
Confession his for her priceless
How will lace and satin mix
With muddied feet and shoeless his
An end before begins their dance
A wished for grand, his only chance
His walk about the village near
The walls that keep her he holds dear
Might as well be far away
Far enough to keep out strays
Yet eyes his close and she appears
To catch a glimpse of what he fears
Him of no real worth yet seen
By royalty in eyes he gleans
Pauper now prince worth to be hers
Champion of cause in heart he stirred
But as night sky gives way to day
His dreams of life too slip away
Through fingers his of no recourse
A state but once changing loves course
Of Heart Strung Days
