Mama Loved The Roses

Today I picked a blushing rose
From the rosebush in my yard…
Spent a few relaxing moments
Communicating with my Lord.

I relayed how much the roses
Still reminded me of Mom…
The smell of her rushed in just like
A sweet reminiscent balm.

I remembered back into my youth
When I’d tried to pick a rose
To give to Mom on Mother’s Day…
I knew she’d so love one of those.

Childishly and unaware
That the roses carried thorns…
I ran screaming through the house
With scratched and bleeding arms.

Mama tended to my wounds
As she wiped away my tears…
Just as she'd do so many times
Through all my tender years.

I asked the Lord if He would please
Indulge me in this way…
Pick some of Heaven’s roses
To honor my sweet Mom today.

I can almost see her dimpled smile…
For as my memory discloses…
Mama loved the simple things...
And she so loved the roses.
