The visits home would come to end
As health declined and soon the end
Spelled their days of once pretend
The work of GOD called to now mend
Sitting there, by bedside near
Granddaughter loved precious he feared
As time now came for such goodbyes
His last one look, her one last sigh
Love became his antidote
Her smile, her laugh would help him cope
With pain that ran its course through old
Such bones time aged and also stole
Was not enough, he'd say to her
Enough to share what in him stirred
Her presence in his life throughout
Better such days with her about
How does one say, goodbye to one
Whose smile still reads of days not done
Of hand he holds as held when child
The better part of for awhile
His grey eyes blue thankful for she
Was sincere in her believed
She was the better part, of life he lived
For time she made, all hers was his
Their walk through parks engaged the squirrels
Peanuts in hands, his little girl
Tossing such fare for them to eat
Such were their days favored complete
He'd watch her grow and graduate
From kindergarten before too late
He'd see her master college degree
Now doctor his, all he would see
This little girl who made worth living
Once hide and seek always forgiving
An old man blind of many things
Whose life would breathe downplay suffering
Their last goodbye just shy now comes
Her hand holding of his becomes
As kiss on cheek and whispers take
The last of her and him awake
