I COULD NOT FACE REJECTION

So when she said,
"Dandy you are the last boy
I would ever date!"
I had crushes but admired
girls from afar
Every girl was too good
for Dandy
So when I left for boot camp
In the Air force
My first girlfriends were pen pals
My cousin introduced Susie
I talked to her between classes
She was cute and blondie
The day before I was to ship out
That night I had a blind date
With Julie
Julie was not allowed to date
At least while still in high school
I took her to the dance with Dad's permission
After all early curfew and I shipped out
early the next morning
Suzie in letters was talking being engaged
She was turning down dates waiting for me
Julie was valedictorian of her class
We wrote about our love of books and sports
She was in the band a baton twirler
Then I met Veronica
She knew all about Julie and Suzie
She helped me write letters and laughed
How Suzie was only into uniforms
And the one I should date was Julie
When guys asked Veronica out
She was a very beautiful girl
It would be in front of me and she would
say, "Sorry I already have a boyfriend."
But she never talked about her boyfriend
One day I shipped off the Korea
She asked that I write her letters
One day I asked how is your boyfriend doing
She said, "You fool you are my boyfriend!"
Doc said, "Your tests have come back
There is no reason you can hold nothing
in your stomach and keep on losing weight."
I dropped from a 170 to 130 in months.
I am six foot three and can only drink
7up and dry crackers without throwing up
I am on a plane home thinking I am dying
I have three unopened letters from three girls
I knew Veronica would stay with me until I died
I did not want to put her through that so
I wrote on the letters, "Recipient had deceased."
Susie said, "I know from your cousin you did not die."
Don't worry about me and there was a wedding announcement
In big letters it said do not attend.
Julie stopped me in town walked around and
showed me what I had missed laughed and walked away
Veronica took emergency leave and flew to Seattle
Mom insisted I get a second opinion
My sister was hugging me wishing me luck
Veronica was in a taxi in the front yard in tears
The second opinion: "You suffer from food alergies.
Trying to gain weight I was eating things killing me.
Veronica wrote my mother, "I would have understood
If he would have told me he had another girl."
I wrote back telling her why I did what I did.
The letter came back, "Recipient refused letter and
has moved on." Poetic justice. Someone is a lucky guy.
