Footfalls

I remember the first footfalls of day
Like a dream the honey light of dawn
surrounded me and warmed my heart.
You flowered in those halcyon days
As if you suddenly knew that life was forever.
We found a love that was hidden from most
Beneath the leaves of the greenwood trees.
In a moment your eyes were lit with joy
I believed that you were a princess
Fallen from a passing star long ago.
The world has lost its imagination,
It sees only the broken surface of things
Not the Spirit that shines within us all
Nor the  wonder of who we really are
Beneath the surface of our lives.
