Ballad Of The Party Worker

He said he was a Socialist
But I couldn't understand
Why he owned three houses
And quite a bit of land.

He said he was a Socialist
And he was working for me.
He earned every penny of
His salary as my MP.

He said he was a Socialist
And it wasn't any perk
Being a Company Director,
It was undercover work.

He said he was a Socialist
But I felt a blooming fool
When all his three lads
Trotted off to Public School.

He said he was a Socialist.
I had my doubts but just the same
I was out on the knocker
Canvassing in his name.

He said he was a Socialist but as
He moved to the Upper House
I felt he was misguided
Or a lying cheating louse.

He said he was a Sociast
But I couldn't take any more
Being addressed as His Lordship
Was just the last straw.

He'd said he was a Socialist
But I could never understand
The way he owned three houses
And quite a lot of land.
