TRUE - LOVE - WHAT - IS - IT ?

Love is patient - What a statement  ! -  when we hurry -
Fret - or frown - Love will wait - serene - unruffled - when
Others let us down - when those nagging irritations - make
Us want to shout and fume - Love - with patient toleration -
Will stay peaceful - quiet - and 
Calm 

Love is kind - it bears no malice - no matter what is done -
Never spiteful or vindictive -  and with no thoughts of its own - 
Always ready with a helping hand - to give - and bear the 
Load - Always reaching out  to others - with a cheerful 
Kindly  word .

It doesn't envy - or get jealous - when others seem to gain -
Recognition - praise and honour - for the work that they have 
Done - It rejoices with the Prodigals - who wearily return - with 
Full acceptance - feasting - happiness -
No matter what they've 
Done .

Such love is willing to forget the past - with its sinfulness and 
Shame - It covers all the memories - full of guilt - regret - and 
Blame - It doesn't boast - or strut about - with arrogance and 
Pride - nor point accusing fingers - with a fanfare - coarse 
And loud .

Instead - with humble quietness - it protects - supports and 
Shields - encouraging the fallen ones - until their wounds are 
Fully healed - in confidence - security - it helps them learn to 
Stand - and always reaches out to steady them - with a strong - 
Protective hand . 

Such love is not self seeking - it never seeks its own - It isn't 
Gimme - Gimme - Gimme - for me and mine alone - but with 
Lavish self abandon - with others on its mind - it is generous -
Unselfish - munificant  - and 
Kind .

Love is courteous - and thoughtful - always looking for the best -
Considerate - impartial - faithful - true - in every test - not vengeful -
Sullen - critical - disloyal - proud and vain -  and it never keeps a 
Record of another person's 
Wrong .

Love is gentle and forgiving - longsuffering and meek - it is 
Patient - true - courageous - and it turns the other cheek - it 
Is willing to lay down its life - regardless of the pain - and 
When others turn their hearts away - true Love will
Still remain ..

Because Love can  - never - never -
Fail .

My poem today is based  loosely  on ....  1 Corinthians 
Chapter 13 .

May the true love of God fill your hearts and lives
